MICHELLE NIXON & DRIVE

A PLACE I BELONG

MOUNTAIN FEVER

Comments: Michelle Nixon has been a well-kept secret in the Southeast region of the country for many years. She has a beautiful voice, writes great songs and is an accomplished bandleader. The material on this recording is varied in content and presentation. She shares lead and harmony vocals with her husband, Nick. The rest of the ensemble is incredibly talented and solid. There are a few covers, and 6 of the 13 tracks are originals by band members. Producer: Michelle Nixon & Drive. Highly recommended.

TOMMY WEBB

FROM ROCK-N-ROLL TO BILL MONROE

TOMMY WEBB

Comments: Tommy Webb has a distinctly traditional voice and overall sound to all of his recordings. The material varies in content from the plight of the coal miner to lost love. His soulful singing evokes emotions – something that some vocal technicians can’t master. Tommy has also penned 2 of the 12 tracks with lyrics that will get your attention. The band is a perfect match for the material. Ron Stewart is the producer. Highly recommended.

BLUE HIGHWAY

SOUNDS OF HOME

ROUNDER

Comments: Blue Highway is one of those rare groups that has been together for 17 years with no personnel changes. I’ve seen this group perform and their energy and chemistry come through on this recording. Each member has recorded with other artists over the years and are accomplished producers. They all contribute to the songwriting presented here – all but one of the tracks was written or co-written by a band member. Their exquisite taste in picking the material on this recording results in a tour de force for this group. The style is a blending of traditional and progressive sensibilities so there is something on this CD for everyone. Producer: Blue Highway. Highly recommended.

MONROE CROSSING

PLAYS THE MUSIC OF BILL MONROE

MONROE CROSSING

Comments: Monroe Crossing is based in Minnesota and since they formed in 2000, they have traveled throughout the United States and in Canada to bring traditional Bluegrass music to appreciative audiences. They do incorporate covers of other types of music in their stage show but, on this recording they play just songs written by or made famous by Bill Monroe. The material is very familiar to regular Bluegrass music fans. If you are unfamiliar with Mr. Monroe’s music, this recording is a good place to start your journey. Producer: Monroe Crossing. Highly recommended.
