Doug Powell has been interested in didgeridoos for over 20 years, and has been making them for about 10 years. He uses a variety of materials, such as Cottonwood, Douglas fir, plywood, particle board, Red Oak, Poplar, and have played with epoxy-glassing and fiberglassing. Doug is always coming up with different approaches to building didgeridoos.

“For me the sound of the didgeridoo touches something deep in us, something primal that longs to be rekindled. The sound is very visceral, and manages simultaneously to be foreign and familiar,” says Doug.  “I find it interesting that in playing the didge, there is no manipulation of the instrument, everything I do as a player comes from my own body.”

Doug lives in Fort Collins with his wife Jennifer, and his two boys: Spencer and Owen.
