Bas Bleu Theatre and Wild Blindness Productions announce:
Waiting for Obama
by John Moore
A free staged reading and community conversation
in conjunction with national March For Our Lives events
Saturday, March 24, 2018
Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida have called for a day of dialogue on March 24 to address the prevalence of gun violence in America. The Bas Bleu Theatre in Fort Collins will contribute to the discussion that evening by hosting a community conversation, followed by a staged reading of “Waiting for Obama,” John Moore’s acclaimed play that looks at one Colorado family that, like so many others in America, is deeply divided by polarizing political beliefs.
“Waiting for Obama” was an official selection at the 2016 New York International Fringe Festival, where it was celebrated by critics as a thought-provoking, absorbing and relevant. Michael Rock called it “a powerful and timely play that depicts the problem of gun violence in the United States in an emotional but often humorous light.” In Fort Collins, the accomplished cast will include Laurence Curry, Chris Kendall, Leslie O’Carroll, Drew Horwitz, Maggy Stacy, John Hauser and Jenna Moll Reyes.
The evening will begin at 6:30pm with a conversation featuring local experts on both sides of the gun issue. The play reading starts at 7:30pm., followed by a brief conversation with cast members. The Bas Bleu Theatre is located at 401 Pine St. in Fort Collins, CO 80524. Admission is free but space is limited, so reservations are strongly encouraged by calling 970-498-8949 or emailing email@example.com.
This event is free. $20 suggested donations will be accepted for the Denver Actors Fund.
“I don’t have guns because the Second Amendment says I can have guns. I have guns because the guy next to me has guns.” – from “Waiting for Obama”
John Moore is Colorado’s only full-time theatre journalist and was named by American Theatre Magazine as one of the 12 most influential theatre critics in the United States in 2011. He is also the founder of the statewide Denver Actors Fund, www.denveractorsfund.com which in four years had made more than $200,000 available to Colorado theatre artists facing situational medical need.
